Won't disappoint (or slip!)Let's just say it from the outset: Black Diamond's FlickLock is the best trekking pole adjustment on the market. It's simple. It works. It doesn't slip.
After using a flick lock style pole, I will never go back to a trekking pole that uses an inside bearing for adjustment. The inside bearings that rely on friction between a plastic wing-nut and the inside walls of the trekking pole, just don't hold up and the amount that they slip in winter will drive you batty.
With that out of the way, the BD Ergo Corks add the simple awesomeness of the flick lock to a super comfortable set of trekking poles. If you have never used a nordic or trekking pole with a cork grip, I highly recommend it. The grips only get more comfortable over time. They form to one's hand and I have never had an issue with durability. What is great about Black Diamond? They always strive to make their products better -- you wouldn't really think that the carbide tip at the end of the pole really matters that much. Well, if you are going to put miles and miles on the poles you will wear them out. Do you want to have to boil water to soften the glue that is holding the tips so you can replace them? No! Black Diamond's tech tips allow you to just screw in a new carbide tip -- I love this simplicity. As a long distance backpacker, I've gone through too many trekking pole tips to count and to have a design that makes getting and installing new tips a breeze, is truly wonderful.
Should you be frustrated that Black Diamond will not cover a bent trekking pole section? No! Well, I was at first, BUT they make it very easy (and relatively cheap) to buy a new section for your pole if you bend it. If you have a outfitter in your area, they might even have the sections in-stock (the OGE does in store).
Need reliable, comfortable poles that will hold up your ultralight shelter with stamina and style -- BD Ergo Croks would be a great choice.
