Wax For The Last Time… EVER

Until now, people of all ages have had bars worth of wax shavings strewn across the garage, basement, or in my case, kitchen floor, ordinary rooms turned ski tuning areas. Well, we all just waxed for the last time. Ever. Yeah, you read that right…Skiers and riders are traditionally creatures of habit. Concrete in their mind about the right buckles being tightened first, boot on which foot first, same base layers, same bindings, etc.

Whatever it may be, there has been a constant norm as long as most of us have been shredding. You wax your skis for the right temperature, depending on snow conditions. When you get some ski bums, sprinkle in some serious science, environmental positive efforts, and a complete reinvention of the wheel, folks, I present to you, PHANTOM by DPS. PHANTOM combines three undeniable benefits, permanence, performance, and mother nature. What could possibly be more convenient in the world of snow sliding sports besides never waxing again?

Let’s take a deep dive. Oh, and friends, keep your excitement to a dull roar, and keep those boots and bindings inside the vehicle at all times. I will be your tour guide today for what could be one of the best things since sliced bread.

So first and foremost, it does not matter whether or not you just came to our shop and bought the latest and greatest, or whether you bought a well-loved pair off our consignment wall, PHANTOM can be applied ONCE, at any point in the life cycle of your shred item of choice. Here is some Bill Nye-esque info for those who need the big words to drive this thing.

This is how DPS breaks down the science:

“PHANTOM’s sophisticated, timed polymerization process permanently penetrates the entire thickness of the base material with powerful go-fast fluoro compositions designed to operate across all snow temperatures. Even when the ski or snowboard goes into a shop for stone grindings, the next fresh layer of PHANTOM is exposed — ready to glide.”

Basically, when you apply this science goo to your base, you use UV light to chemically bond it to the molecules in the base of the ski. Once it sinks in, its in, forever. So whats that mean for your skis or board? Well wax is just a top layer that literally starts to wear off immediately, and requires you to put your broom in your tuning room to use multiple times a week. PHANTOM penetrates the whole thickness of the base and once it’s bonded, its bonded forever.

Let’s continue to cram more stoke science into that brain of yours…Let’s talk performance. I am even going to throw a graph in here.

If you don’t like the weather just wait five minutes. My entire life I have heard this in regards to our regions weather. It rings true. So unless you are waxing constantly, with the exactly correct temp of wax day after day, you are bound to get a bunch of days where you have the sub-optimal glide due to laziness, or just that you don’t care. Well PHANTOM is fast across ALL conditions. Wet snow? Fast. Corn snow? Fast. Man made? Fast. You get the idea. With this said, this stuff doesnt feel too fast. Its totally predictable. They went around the globe, scienced in a lab, and the consensus is that PHANTOM is faster than conventional wax, across all temps, all conditions.

So with that said, here is a graph. If you want to dive into this info more specifically, you can click HERE.

Personally the biggest development here is the environmental stewardship. When a ski is cured there is no biological damage being left behind your shredding. Does not effect humans, plants, or animals. Hydrocarbon wax traditionally contains some bad stuff. These chemicals can get into the watershed, impacting them heavily. • New structure pre-PHANTOM

  • Making sure bases are structured to our high standard.

  • PHANTOM ready.

  • Just the right amount of goo for the right amount of speed on the hill.

  • Goo application.

  • Make sure there is an even amount of goo application.
(I am talking about Goo a lot, I know, but you get the idea. USE THE RIGHT AMOUNT.)

  • Sink in time pre-UV treatment is 15 minutes.

  • Preheating for optimal glide.

  • Like a pizza oven, but for skis, and with UV rays.

  • Speed scrape to get excess dried material.

  • All ready, never again needing to wax.

  • A face that never has to wax his skis again. STOKED.
