An Open Love Letter to Spring Skiing

An open love letter to Spring Skiing

To our beloved Spring Skiing,

You are warm. Your timing is always perfect. Just when we are completely over the harsh winter, you allow us to shed layers of insulation, give us the freedom, and allow for a range of motion to really enjoy you. Sometimes a select few of us even wear jorts to really show our appreciation for you. Your sun rays allow us to adorn sunscreen and make progress on the ever-elusive, east coast goggle tan. When you arrive, there is a general uptick in stoke. It's all smiles, or, at least this year, smiles under a mask. But we can see it in each other’s eyes.

We have a shared and long history. Our love for you is community-wide. We have enjoyed quad-killing endless bumps, and days where the bevvies seem to flow like water. The days of direct sun, slushy snow, and burgers on the grill are always the ones (besides the pow days) that stick with us the most.

Something that comes only once a year that we also love is the off-hill vibe. Boots are soaked through like a badge of honor. Beverages are cracked, music is cranked, and everyone seems to simultaneously do the same thing. We love that you bring us together after the skiing is done. It’s a chance for stories, stoke, and laughing at your friends’ super bad sunburn.

What's even better is that winter has spent all year beating us with relentless cold, ice, crust, pow, and everything else the east throws at us. This is a positive thing, once you come around. Those who couldn't bear the elements are done for the year — that leaves the crowds thinner! What's more, Spring Skiing, is that when you show up, sometimes we turn the lifts till 5PM. The days are longer and you let our stoke ring out for a few more hours, even into the evening.

We also love you, Spring Skiing, because along with the weather, you provide stellar conditions. The base is deep, and spring tree runs can be glorious. The snow is made for heroes: this epic mix of slush and sturdy snow, called corn. We love the harvest.

We have been in love with you for a very long time. We, as a community, will continue to share our love with you every chance we get. We will celebrate our love by shredding super hard. Our stoke will be yelled, and shared across all mountains.

We love you Spring Skiing. We will see you soon.

Love,

Everyone
