Director of Buying

Outdoor Gear Exchange (OGE) is looking for an experienced Director of Buying to oversee the daily operations of our Buying Team.

The Director of Buying is responsible for all product purchasing at Outdoor Gear Exchange and for coordinating between all other divisions of the store and the Outdoor Gear Collective (OGC). The Director is responsible for ensuring the Buying Team is supported in stocking the store, planning projections, reporting on ordering, sales, and inventory results and KPIs, and coordinating with all other departments in OGC to meet business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Buying for a specific department of the store (to be determined)
  • Trade show attendance and organizing for the Buying Team
  • Projecting Inventory needs for the year ahead and reprojecting the current year as needed
  • Managing inbound inventory and coordinating with the sales and marketing departments to work to meet and exceed our sales goals
  • Coordinating with the Warehouse Team on inventory storage needs, preseason and closeout order timing, and other spatial and workforce concerns
  • Creating and updating buying SOP and reference materials, working to improve systems and efficiency
  • Hiring and training new buyers to be effective in their positions, while improving the efficiency of current buyers
  • Working with the Development and IT teams to review and use technology to improve buying processes
  • Communicating with other departments and the rest of the store regarding what's going on in the buying department in general and specifically if any buys or changes will impact another department
  • Being the go-to for the buying department for questions from staff, vendors, and reps

Candidates must have the following qualifications to be considered:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Buyer in a retail setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing, motivating, and supporting a team of employees
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a proven professional demeanor
  • A logical and organized approach to their work
  • The ability to effectively observe departments and staff, offer critical feedback, and course-correct direct reports

Facilities: Cleaner

Outdoor Gear Exchange is looking for a health-conscious individual who can provide our community with a sanitary work environment. The ideal candidate will work throughout the store performing janitorial responsibilities which include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash and recycle disposal, and sanitation of surfaces and restrooms.

We are looking for someone who can work 4-hour shifts on Monday and Wednesday, preferably morning or evening. This position includes a store discount and other great staff benefits.

Sales Associate

Outdoor Gear Exchange is looking for passionate and experienced outdoor-loving folks to help our customers find what they need for their next adventure. This person should be knowledgeable in any or all of our fundamental departments including Clothing, Camping/Packs, Footwear, Paddling, Climbing, Bike, or Snowsports.

Employees will be expected to work during the holidays and weekends. The position is full-time with great benefits (subsidized health insurance, 401k, generous PTO, and industry perks).  Part-time applicants are also encouraged to apply.

Service Department: Experienced Bike Mechanic

Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington, VT is looking to hire a Bike/Ski Technician to join our Service Team. We support a full-service shop with a focus on high-level customer service and quality work. Techs perform a wide range of bike repair services from full shock overhauls and custom wheel builds to winter commuter restorations and everything in-between. Additionally, we offer a range of ski and snowboard mounting, repair, and tuning services. 

All applicants must have 1-2 years of bike service experience (or equivalent), including the ability to perform most standard bike repairs. Familiarity with ski/ snowboard mounting and tuning is a plus, but training is available.  Ideal applicants will also have strong customer service skills and be able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment. This position may also require time spent on the sales floor.

Salary for this position ranges from $33,440 - $38,310 ($16.08 - $18.42/hr) depending on experience with competitive benefits and we are willing to provide some on-job training for the right candidate. Full-time applicants are preferred, but part-time applicants will be considered.

Warehouse Department: Warehouse Associate

Outdoor Gear Exchange's Warehouse Department is looking to hire a full-time warehouse associate, with the main focus of restocking the sales floor each day and receiving all incoming products. The position would be full-time/40 hours per week starting as soon as possible. Weekends are a must and hours are 7AM to 3PM. Applicants should have a strong work ethic, sound attention to detail, and an ability to work alone productively. Previous warehouse experience and extensive knowledge of outdoor gear are not necessary, however would be a bonus. Starting pay is $31,950 per year ($15.36/hour).
