The Lifeguard belay device with assisted braking is compact, light and durable. Madrock's new device has been constructed using hot forged aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel for increased durability. The Lifeguard can be used with classic belay techniques with single ropes ranging from 8.9mm to 11mm for lead and top-rope climbing.

I recently got the lifeguard wanting a small and compact braking device, and I could not be happier. It’s great for lead belaying with its stronger spring than the gri-gri, and I really like how subtle it is on the harness weight and space wise. I genuinely believe this might be a better option than the gri-gri especially for those wanting the feel and control of an atc. An added bonus of no plastic parts makes putting it to hard use more comforting!
