Sorry! This item Is out of stock. ( Valandre - Freja 950 Down Sleeping Bag )
Valandre may have made their name supplying sleeping bags for super-light, non-oxygen 8000m climbs in the Himalayas, but that doesn't mean they can't apply their expertise to bags for mere mortals climbing at lower altitudes as well. The Freja is the little sister of the Odin and Thor expedition bags, and she is a serious winter bag in her own right, perfect for 6000/7000m peaks.
The Freja is a "little masterpiece" of sleeping bag construction, consisting of 28 straight H-box-wall compartments which keep the down exactly where it's intended to be, from the moment you take the bag out of its compression sack. Many other sleeping bags have easier-to-sew continuous baffles, which allow the down to shift around and might create cold spots. These compartments are filled with 954 grams of 850+ fill goose down, which puts the Freja's limit of comfort at 5o F (-16o C) and its extreme rating at a reassuring -35o F (-37o C).
The Freja's baffles are "tuck stitched" from the inside of the outside fabric, stitching the baffles on to a double layer. This stitching, combined with an impressively strong Asahi Kasei outer fabric fabric, ensures that this shell will not fail.....because quality gear is made to last. The hood is a perfect 3D "half moon" construction, offering a maximum of down insulation all the way down your forehead, so you can now forget sleeping with your wool hood on.
As explained, the Freja is a serious quality down bag. Before considering becoming: "a owner", you should keep in mind that ten to twenty years down the road, you will still have it - and during this period, if any problems arise, Valandre will stand by your side.
Ten to twenty years.....is a gear marriage!
Since 1980, Valandre has been quietly making some of the world's finest down outerwear and sleeping bags for climbers who push the limits of high-altitude alpine style climbing. Radical designs like the Immelman jacket and Shocking Blue sleeping bag have totally reimagined what is possible in the category, and Valandre's meticulous craftsmanship is famous - it takes Renault two hours to assemble an entire Twingo car, and Valandre ten hours to do the sewing for their Combi down suit. If you want to buy from a company that makes the best of the best - and proves it by doing, not just talking - look no further than Valandre.
Please note that Valandre products ordered through GearX.com ship directly from the US distributor in Utah. So, you won't find them if you come into our Burlington store. We're bummed about that too.
