The Outdoor Gear Exchange/ GearX.com is proud to sponsor the Dark Horse bouldering competition series! The Dark Horse series, the premier bouldering competition in New England, is now in its sixth season and is coming to Vermont! The third stop of the season and the last event before the championship is Saturday, January 17th at MetroRock station in Essex, just a few miles from downtown Burlington. The Dark Horse competition is open to all ages and skill levels with multiple competition divisions including a citizen round, junior and youth rounds and a pro round. This is a night of amazing climbing and fun, with over $10,000 in cash prizes on the line and over $1,000 in raffle prizes!

Adult/Citizen
- Any age can compete
- Compete in the redpoint round to be placed (afterwards) into categories (Recreational, Intermediate, Advanced) and awarded prizes
- NO FINALS ROUND for these competitors

Junior
- Ages 12 and under ONLY

Compete in the redpoint round for a chance to go on to a finals round
- Top three competitors from redpoint round move on to finals
- Have their own boulder problems tailored specifically for their smaller size and strength

Youth
- Ages 13 to 15 ONLY

Compete in the redpoint round for a chance to go on to a finals round
- Top three competitors from redpoint round move on to finals

Format-
Redpoint round: Each division features a red point round, where competitors can attempt as many boulder problems as they like, with their final score based off of their 5 highest scores. For each round (except the Citizen round) the top scoring competitors advance to the finals round. Finals round: In the finals round, competitors have 5 minutes to attempt each finals problem with no limit on the number of attempts that they can make to reach the top or a to a high point. The climber with the highest score after the finals round wins! Scoring: Scores are determined based on the following:
