What exactly is The Exchange?

For 30 years, our Burlington storefront has helped outdoor enthusiasts buy and sell gently used gear. The Exchange is the online home for this program—a curated selection of high-quality, pre-owned inventory vetted by our experts and shipped to adventurers nationwide.

How do I know I can trust the condition?

Every item undergoes a rigorous inspection by our gear experts. We check for functional zippers, fabric integrity, and overall structural safety. If it doesn't meet our standards for the trail or the mountain, it doesn't make it onto the site.

Will the item look exactly like the photo?

Yes. We do not use stock photos for pre-owned gear. The images you see are of the actual, individual item you are purchasing. We photograph specific "character marks" so you see exactly what we see.

Does Free Shipping apply to The Exchange?

Yes! Pre-owned gear qualifies for our standard free shipping threshold. We believe high-quality gear should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their zip code.

What is the return policy?

Because these items are sold on behalf of individual community members, all sales on The Exchange are final. We provide detailed photos and a 4-tier grading system to ensure you can shop with total confidence.

How can I tell the difference between "New" and "Pre-Owned" on the site?

Keep an eye out for the Blue "Pre-Owned" Badge. This label appears on the product image and is notated throughout the checkout process to ensure you always know exactly what you are adding to your cart.

I’m a local—is all your consignment online now?

Not at all. The Exchange features a curated fraction of our inventory for our national audience. Our Burlington basement remains the only place to find our full selection and deep-basement bargains.

Can I consign my gear through the website?

Currently, we accept consignment drop-offs at our Burlington storefront any time we are open.
