Want to tackle some unnamed peaks in the Lower 48? Head to mile marker 203 on the edge of Glacier National Park and start hiking. You'll need traction and waterproofing for the snowfields, protection from the sticker brush, and stability for the scree and sheer mileage. With all that ahead, you'd better wear the Oboz Firebrand II.

I bought my fourth pair of Oboz Firebrand in two and a half years. They are the only shoe that can withstand the rigors of my job and keep me comfortable all day long.
I have a very wide foot and these shoes are wide enough for me. This alone is enough (for me) to recommend them. They are very comfortable and required no real break in time. Traction is good and the shoes seem quite rugged. I haven't carried a load in them yet, but I feel like they'd be fine for 30-35lbs for a few days. My only complaints are a bit nit-picky. Whatever non-goretex vapor barrier they are using doesn't breathe at all. Plan on your feet being wet from perspiration. I also don't love the laces. They are round and quite slippy. I've always preferred flat laces as they then to distribute the load a bit better and seem to stay tied more readily. These shoes could use some slightly better lacing options near the ankle - a second hole like most running shoes would be a good addition.
