Overview
From bagging peaks in the high alpine to mountaineering missions to multi-day tours with heavy packs, the new ultra-light Ridgeline Carbon is the ultimate go-to splitboard for long tours and big mountain riding. Weston has taken their mighty Ridgeline and shaved the weight at 2,740 grams in a 158cm vs 3,380 grams in the traditional. A light and snappy layer of carbon compliments an advanced core composed of sustainably harvested poplar, paulownia stringers and bamboo insert reinforcements creates the perfect blend between lightweight, response, dampening and pop that is more approachable than a traditional freeride board. The Ridgeline is a hybrid all-mountain & freeride splitboard that handles open bowls, steeps, cliffs and powder days with ease. While the Ridgeline still features a tapered directional shape and a Freeride camber-dominant profile, Weston change the recipe by using a mid-stiff flex and only a 20mm stance setback. This combination will still provide edgehold, pop and float while keeping it playful. The castor bean based, Rugged Nylon topsheet, helps shed snow and adds durability while the Sintered 4001 base provides top of the line speed in a minimalist black design to create seamless repairs. As with all Weston splitboards, they shift the touring bracket forward to make kick-turns a breeze and on this model we utilize active latching Karakoram UltraClips 2.0, installed with their holeless base technology, to help create the most responsive ride.

The Ridgeline Carbon Split is my splitboard mountaineering samurai sword. For big days in the hills, the weight savings from the carbon composition help me to keep up with friends who are even on the lightest skis. It’s always a pleasure bootpacking with a lightweight board as well. Fortunately, the stiff platform doesn’t sacrifice much on the descent, especially in steep consequential terrain. Camber underfoot locks things in on the up, and makes this board ultra secure on the down. Turns initiate on a dime, and the stiffness allows for confidence inspiring and secure jump turning. The rocker in the nose still allows to open things up when the slope angle lets off, and charging powder on this thing is still a breeze. Carbon boards are certainly a “quiver” product, but if you enjoy going big in the mountains, this is the tool!
The Ridgleline Carbon takes the Ridgeline to another level. I’ve ridden both and there are little differences but the weight savings of the Carbon makes long days more enjoyable. I love the stiffness of this board and how it begs to be ridden fast. I’ve thrown all conditions at it and it shines. I try not to ride it every single time I go out due to wanting to maintain lifepsan of the carbon build, but I trust it will last a long time. If you like the Ridgeline, try the Carbon. You’ll love it.
